On July 29, 2009, the Judicial Council voted to close all state courts (Superior Courts, Courts of Appeal, and Supreme Court) on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, from September 2009 through June 2010. Those Wednesday "court closure days" were legal holidays (non-court days) for purposes of calculating deadlines. They have now ended -- the last one was June 17, 2010.
As was the case prior to the enactment of the Urgency Legislation, individual courts may implement "furlough days" on a day of their choosing. Any such "furlough days" are to be counted as court days for purposes of calculating deadlines. Be sure to check the applicable court for furlough days.
The Los Angeles Superior Court will observe a court furlough day on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
